Materials & Safety

Is FIMO clay good for earrings?

Absolutely! FIMO is a professional-grade polymer clay known for its durability and strength. It’s perfect for earrings because it’s lightweight, flexible, and long-lasting once baked — ideal for daily wear.

Polymer clay” is the category; FIMO is a professional brand within that category. I use it for its color stability, strength, and flexibility — perfect for lightweight, everyday earrings.

No — once properly cured, polymer clay is non‑toxic and safe for skin contact. As with any jewelry, please keep earrings away from very young children as small parts can be a choking hazard.

Yes. Properly cured polymer clay is waterproof and keeps its shape and color. If you swim in the sea or a chlorinated pool, simply rinse the earrings with clean water and pat dry.

Yes — stainless steel is hypoallergenic, waterproof, and rust-resistant, making it the perfect metal for everyday wear, even in the shower.

Yes — I only use nickel‑free stainless steel. It’s comfortable for most people and resists tarnish and rust in everyday wear. If you’ve reacted to stainless steel in the past, please reach out so we can discuss alternatives before you order.

FIMO is made with high-quality pigments and plasticizers that make it exceptionally durable, waterproof, and color-stable. It’s a professional material chosen for premium, wearable art.

Stainless steel is my standard because it’s durable, hypoallergenic for most people, and holds up in daily wear.

Yes. Polymer clay (FIMO brand) is skin‑safe once cured. I pair it with nickel‑free stainless steel posts and backs. The only part that actually passes through your ear is the metal post: I use nickel‑free stainless steel as standard. I don’t use varnishes that flake; the color is in the clay itself, so there’s no coating to irritate skin.

FIMO contains plasticizers that keep the clay flexible, but they’re locked into the clay once cured. I don’t use surface coatings that flake; finishes are part of the material itself unless stated otherwise.

Care & Maintenance

How do I clean polymer clay earrings?

Wipe gently with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. For makeup marks, a tiny bit of mild soap on a damp cloth is fine. Avoid alcohol, acetone, bleach, ultrasonic cleaners, or abrasive pads — they can dull the surface.

A soft cloth is enough. If needed, warm water and a drop of mild soap, then dry thoroughly. No silver polish or harsh chemicals required.

I finish each pair with either a satin or glossy surface. Extra polishes can haze or alter that finish, so I don’t recommend them.

Yes — they’re fine for rain, showering, and swimming. After saltwater or chlorinated pools, rinse with freshwater and pat dry. Sweat won’t harm them; just give a quick wipe after intense workouts.

I recommend taking them off for sleeping. While polymer clay is flexible, pressure against pillows can bend components or stress the post over time.

Store them flat or hanging in a dry place, away from direct sun. A small pouch or jewelry box prevents scratches and dust.

Strong solvents (acetone, alcohol), hair sprays directly on the earrings, and prolonged heat (e.g., on a radiator or car dashboard). Put earrings on after applying perfume, lotions, or sunscreen.

Wearing & Durability

Are they lightweight?

Absolutely — that’s one of the biggest perks. Most pairs feel “barely there.” Based on my actual build (FIMO clay at 1.5–2.0 mm with stainless posts), here’s what to expect:

  • Small (≈2.5–3.5 cm): about 1.6–4.2 g per pair (including posts/backs).

  • Medium (≈4–5 cm): about 3.8–6.6 g per pair.

  • Large statement (≈6 cm): about 6.3–11.3 g per pair, depending on how open/airy the design is.

In practice, I design to keep most pairs in the 1.5–6 g range; bolder styles are usually 6–10 g.

Yes. When properly cured, polymer clay is strong yet slightly flexible, which helps resist breakage. Treat them like any quality jewelry: avoid bending parts intentionally and store safely.

Yes — each pair includes two types of backs: stainless steel backs and small rubber stoppers. Pick what you prefer; the rubber backs add extra grip (handy under hats/scarves or for smooth posts), while the stainless steel ones are the everyday standard.

I offer single‑earring replacements for most designs. Send me a photo of the remaining earring and your order number via the Contact page.

Sustainability & Transparency

Where are the earrings made?

Every pair is handmade by me in Vienna, Austria.

I work in small batches using professional FIMO clay and nickel‑free stainless steel. Packaging is recyclable and plastic‑free where possible, and I minimize waste by reusing offcuts in new designs or micro‑studs where suitable.

Yes — it’s just me! I design, hand‑shape, bake, sand, and assemble each pair. If you’d like to know more about my process, visit the About page.
